Hello!

Where has the time flown? End of January already? Only 11 more months 'til Christmas! haha.

So, my gruelling three weeks of exams are finally over, yay! I'd rather not think about when the results come out, or whether or not I've passed. For now, I'm going to revel in the blissful ignorance of the unknown. *Pours a glass of vino*

I went to Nottingham at the weekend to see all my best friends which was lovely. It's good to have that group of friends from back home to keep you grounded from the hectic lifestyle at university. It's funny how we all just slip back into our little dynamic when we see each other.

Safe to say I went a leeeeettle overboard this week on purchases, I won't show-and-tell everything just yet but I'm sure I'll feature them in future blog posts! I wore this lovely polka-heart vintage number to Nottingham, (from @shopdixi! Cheeky little plug there...) teaming it with converses and a blazer during the day, and switching to black lace up brogues at night when we went out. I've learnt to 'pack lightly', shall we say. Which is good, seeing as I used to have costume changes for every possible weather alteration & travelled with a small suitcase on day trips out.

These Converses are quite a recent purchase, I got them for more than half price off on eBay, bargain! Still rather squeaky-clean though which looks a little weird! So I'm wearing them in.

I've also noticed a new trend in rings. Bunnies, deer, ladybirds... The accessories kingdom has gone wild for animals! And if there's one thing you'll learn about me, the chances of seeing me without any rings on, are close to none. I just love 'em! My collection is ridiculous. But there's always room for more, so I thought I'd treat myself to some new goodies;

The Golden Globes kicked off 2012's awards season last week in L.A, and of course the question on the edge of every fashionista's lips; what are the new red carpet trends for 2012?

Corseted gowns, tulle underskirts, white lace and oozes of elegance; the answer is...

'bridal shower'.

Perhaps prompted by the marriage of Kate & William, celebrities seemed to be waltzing down the aisle rather than strutting Hollywood's red carpet!

For me, Kate Beckinsale looked the bride-iest of all, opting for a cream Roberto Cavalli strapless gown. The lace detailing on the dress, tousled up-do and sparkling jewellery; she's what every bride should aspire to on their big day.

But a favourite of mine was soon-to-be Mrs Timberlake's, who wore a vintage-inspired lace gown by Elie Saab and embarassingly enough, reminded me of Bella Swan's wedding dress...(guilty Twi-hard here, judge away!) I'm a big fan of high-necks, and the demure slit up the side keeps this Victorian look modern and feminine.

After having watched the awards last Sunday, all this talk of white lace and bridal wear subconsciously filtered its way into my shopping.. I popped into Ark, a little gem of a store tucked away behind Sheffield's West Street, and discovered this bridal beauty!

Luckily, my Kiera Knightley-esque boobs can just about get away going bra-less in this cutout back! (It seems there are some perks..)

I bought this dress on impulse, but I might wear it to a friend's birthday soiree happening next week.

Teaming it with some red accessories I thought worked well as a contrast against the cream lace.

So if there's anything staying up 'til 4am to watch The Golden Globes has taught me, it's that you don't necessarily have to be wearing a wedding ring in order to do bridal wear.

More famous nowadays for her edgy style and head-turning figure, fashionphile Alexa Chung has long surpassed her days as T4 Presenter. Girls want to be her; clothes want to be worn by her; & don't get my started on those envious pins... my list of reasons why she is my fashion icon could fill this entire blog! But before I start gushing (this is only my second week after all!) let's take a look at the ex-model in action...

Forever effortlessly cool, her ease at putting outfits together comes as a welcome relief, especially when you compare her to the likes of A listers Cheryl Cole or Victoria Beckham, who, in their quest to look chic and 'a la mode' can sometimes appear a little contrived. So it is in no surprise to find out that trend school is cool is back on the high street, & I have a sneaking suspicion champion of the preppy look, Alexa, may have had something to do with this.

With this theme in mind, I thought I'd reveal a recent purchase I made last week, (which reminds me.. Thanks student loan!)

I bought this vintage satchel from eBay for just £18, and teamed with my old rupert-the-bear tartan scarf and Zara blazer I feel adds the perfect amount of 'preppy-ness' without going too overboard.

I'm signing off this post from my beloved steel city of Sheffield! Although it is great to be back at uni, I just have to power through three weeks of exams and coursework deadlines first, *weep* Looks like some much-needed retail therapy shall be needed to help me survive it. No doubt I'll share all my purchases with you all on here (I'm apologising in advance to Natwest for this...)

While browsing some websites for the upcoming S/S ’12 collections, there was one theme which kept cropping up, and one I am VERY happy about.. it seems the Roaring Twenties of America – or more accurately, Long Island’s East Egg – is jazz-dancing its way back onto our clothes rails as designers channel all things twenties. This summer, look out for dropped waistlines, tassles, corsages, boater hats, knee-length hemlines and cloche hats for the girls, and pastel colours mixed with Italian linen cotton and slick hair lines for the boys…

Whether it’s the excitement of upcoming Di Cap/Mulligan film, The Great Gatsby, or whether it’s because America is reinstating prohibition (let’s hope it’s the former!), we can expect to see this outlandish and fun bourgeois era from America filtering through and inspiring our Spring/Summer collections this year. In the 1920′s, these trends originally emerged as a result of French fashions pioneered by Coco Chanel. With fashion you can absolutely repeat the past, and I’m so happy it’s making a comeback! Absolutely loved the novel, and who wouldn’t want to embrace an element of a fun-loving, revolutionary 20′s flapper girl in their party wear this year?

Don’t know if I could go the whole hog and get a bob-cut though… Don’t push it, Fitzgerald.
